Are You Paying Too Much For Your Broadband?

When was the last time you actually looked at your broadband bill? Or your mobile bill for that matter? If you're anything like most of the people we speak to, the answer is probably "when I signed up", and that was quite a few years ago!

So here's something I didn't expect to be writing about when 2026 started. Helping people switch their broadband and mobile providers has become a major part of what we do. It started with the odd customer asking "am I paying too much for this?", and in all honesty the answer was nearly always yes. Word got round, and now it's something we're doing week in, week out.

Think about it, nobody would let their car insurance roll over year after year without at least getting a quote, would they? Same with gas & electricity, we've all been trained to shop around and switch when the price goes up. Broadband and mobile are no different, it's simple. Once your contract ends the price usually goes up, the deal you signed up for disappears, and you carry on paying for exactly the same service. People are losing hundreds of pounds a year by not switching, and most of them have no idea!

So why don't more people do it? Fear of the hassle is a big one, but the one I hear the most is "I can't leave, all my emails are on there". And there it is, the trap. If your email address ends in your broadband provider's name, you're tied to them, and they know it. Leave, and in a lot of cases that address either stops working or you end up paying a fee just to keep it. Years of contacts, bank logins, online shopping accounts, all hanging off an email address you don't really own.

Of course the fix is easy, and it's long overdue. It's time to move to a universal email address, one that has nothing to do with who supplies your internet, so it goes wherever you go. We move the address over, bring your old emails and contacts across, and help update the important accounts. Once that's done, you're free to switch whenever the price is right, and you'll never have that conversation with yourself again.

Want to know how much difference it can make? A recent customer of ours came to us convinced she was getting a good deal. We sat down, went through her bills, and found her a better one. Over her new two-year contract she's saving £900! Nine hundred pounds, for the same broadband and mobile she was already using. That's a holiday, or Christmas sorted, or just a lot less going out of the bank every month 💷

So if you can't remember when you last checked, or you've been putting it off because of that email address, now's the time. As always we're happy to take a look at what you're paying and do the legwork for you, contact us today.
